Welcome to the Lafayette School Website
Lafayette Elementary is nestled between the Ukranian Village and Humboldt Park neighborhoods. Lafayette serves as a neighborhood school for Pre-K-8th grade students. Lafayette boasts two Head Start classrooms and is a cluster site for Autism. At Lafayette we value the child as learner. Teachers regularly assess students and gear their instruction towards the child’s individual needs.
Lafayette offers a Transitional Bilingual Program for our ELL - English Language Learners. We have three self-contained, bilingual classrooms and a pull-out for 4th-8th graders. All these classroom teachers have bilingual certificates. Lafayette is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) School and works hard to support students academically and behaviorally. Lafayette is a Magnet Cluster school focused on the Fine Arts. Students receive instruction in music and visual arts. Our school boasts one of the largest elementary stringed orchestra in the city. Over 100 students participate in daily music instruction after-school through our Merit Music partnership. The school partners with over 50 local agencies to better serve its students and families.
Lafayette offers tiered supports to our students that struggle academically and behaviorally. Students receive Reading and Math intervention during the day as well as in our after-school programs. Students also participate in Check-In/Check-Out and Check and Connect programs which provide adult and peer mentorship daily.
